Meeting on proposed Maybole children's home well attended

Nearly 90 local residents attended a public meeting in Maybole Town Hall, as part of a consultation regarding the proposed location of a new children's unit proposed for Queen's Terrace.

Hugh Carswell, Head of Children's Services said: "I would like to thank everyone who attended the consultation, we are keen to engage in a meaningful way with local people before recommendations are taken to elected members as to where these new 'looked after' accommodation facilities will be located, we believe in genuine partnership with our communities to progress our collective 'corporate parenting' responsibilities.

"It is important that young people, who have been placed in 'looked after' accommodation in children's units are provided with the most appropriate and best quality of care possible.

"The young people residing in these excellent new facilities will be from the South Ayrshire area. We want to show our commitment to assisting every young person to achieve their maximum potential as well as keeping contact with their families and friends. It is important that our 'looked after' young people can attend local schools and play an active and positive part in their local community therefore everyone's view will be fully considered as part of this consultation process."

You can comment on the proposed site on the South Ayrshire Council website - the consultation period runs until 31st March.
