Great news as First Minister announces work to begin on Maybole bypass

Long-held hopes of a bypass for Maybole could finally become a reality, after Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond announced the start of work on the project.

Speaking at the opening of the new Stena Ferry terminal at Loch Ryan, Mr Salmond said that work was to being on obtaining statutory permissions for work to begin on a bypass for Maybole.

He said: "For the Maybole bypass, we now will start work on obtaining the necessary statutory permissions and draft orders."

The announcement came as the new ferry terminal at Loch Ryan was opened, as part of a series of measures to improve transport links to the new port.
