Age Concern Maybole
Unlike most voluntary groups in the Maybole area, Age Concern Maybole has its own premises at 16 School Vennel, which are open to all, as well as providing a meeting facility for other groups.
Age Concern Maybole was born out of an idea by the former Maybole One Stop Shop to provide facilities for the elderly in Maybole and the surrounding villages. When it was clear that MOSS would be forced to close, a local Management Committee was formed in February 2009 to manage the building.
From the very start, the Management Committee wanted to establish a drop-in centre, mainly for the elderly. To that end, 16 School Vennel is open every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 2pm. (School Vennel is that pedestrian lane opposite the Town Hall, alongside Cameron's hardware shop. Turn right at the end of the former MOSS shop and we are on the left hand side)
Why not drop in for a cup of tea or coffee, a biscuit and a chat? Even if you have a half-hour wait for the next bus home, come in an wait in warmth and comfort.
Would you like to help us run the building? We are looking for volunteers to help man the building - even two hours a week is useful.
We also have a photocopier, from which we will shortly be offering photocopies at 5p a copy - watch this space for details.
Or maybe you are a local group looking for somewhere to meet? Contact us for further details.
When finances permit (we need over £3000 a year), we hope to expand our activities. The reinstatement of the Film Group and the benefits service offered by MOSS are two such ideas. Do you have any others?
For further information contact our Secretary, Frank Potter, on 01655-750-293 or at ageconcernmaybole@yahoo.com - or better still, drop into 16 School Vennel.
